Trojanettes hold off Heartland Christian for first win

Essex sophomore Desi Glasgo runs the fastbreak during a loss to Sidney, Tuesday, Feb. 4.

The Essex Trojanettes nearly gave up a double-digit fourth quarter lead, but held on for a 44-43 win at Heartland Christian, Monday, Feb. 10 for their first win of the season.

Essex led 27-24 at halftime and 36-31 after three quarters. The lead expanded to 12 in the final quarter, but then Trojanette coach Rob Erickson started losing athletes to fouls. In all three Trojanettes fouled out leaving just the five players on the floor to finish the game.

Heartland Christian had two free throws to tie the game with eight seconds remaining, but only one went and Essex was able to run the clock out.

Elise Dailey and Desi Glasgo both reached double figure scoring for the Trojanettes with Dailey putting in 12 points and Glasgo 11. Brianne Johnson added nine points and Riley Jensen scored seven.

The Trojanettes improved to 1-14 with the win.

Bella Dingus led the Eagles with 15 points. They fell to 11-10 on the season.
