The Shenandoah tennis team qualified five for the Individual State Tennis Tournament Saturday, May 16, in Red Oak. Seniors Lucas Sun (second from right) and Teagan Brunk (far right) won the doubles district championship. Sophomore Matt Holmes (far left) and junior Ryan Lawrence (second from left) finished second in doubles. Junior Luke Daoust (middle) won the district singles championship. All advance to the state tournament May 27-28 in Waterloo.

Shenandoah juniors Sarah Pickens and JJ Martin earned the ninth-place medal Tuesday, June 9, at the Class 1A Co-ed State Golf Championships in Newton.
Martin and Pickens were one of two Shenandoah teams in the 65-team field and posted an 81 to finish in a five-way tie for ninth. The card tiebreaker put them on top and gave them a state medal.
Four of Clarinda golf's top players this spring competed Tuesday, June 9, at the Class 1A Co-ed State Golf Championships in Newton. The teams of Jack Kline and Taylor Rasmussen (left) and Addy Weinreich and Jac Fine (right) both posted 85s.
Clarinda also had two teams in the field. Addy Weinreich and Jac Fine were one stroke shy of being in that tie for the final medal positions with an 82. The team of Taylor Rasmussen and Jack Kline posted an 85.

Shenandoah’s Alaina Anderson and Clay Foutch were also in the field and put up a 96.
There was a three-way tie at the top of the leaderboard with a 75. The card tiebreaker and state championship went to North Union’s Alexis Cummins and Drew Henderson.
All four Shenandoah golfers in the field return next year to lead their respective teams while Clarinda graduates only Rasmussen from their four that played Tuesday.

Four of the top Shenandoah tennis players from the past season played in one more event Tuesday, June 9, at the Class 1A Co-ed State Tennis Championships in Pella.
The team of Jaylan Gray and Lucas Sun won two matches before falling in the quarterfinals while the team of Luke Daoust and Gabi Jacobs won one match before losing in the second round.
Both Shenandoah teams lost to teams from Cedar Rapids Xavier, who played each other in the final, as part of the 28-team field.

Jacobs, a Sidney senior, who has played tennis for Shenandoah during her career and finished third last fall at the state singles tournament, and Daoust, a junior, who finished eighth at the state tournament, earlier this spring, lost 6-0, 6-0 to the eventual champion, Gabi Fleming and Charlie LeGrand.
Shenandoah’s top team won their opening match 6-1, 6-0 over Hannah Mangae and Eli Pederson of North Polk.

Gray and Sun, both seniors, were Shenandoah’s No. 2 team and cruised in the first round with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sloan Brodersen and Noah Tremel of Newton. They won a three-setter 3-6, 6-2, 1-0, 10-7 in the tiebreak in the second round, over Kaylee Kuehl and Strummer Grout of Boone in the second round.
The Shenandoah team played right with the eventual runner-up, Lulu Rozeboom and Carson Sorg of Xavier, in the first set losing 6-4. But the Xavier team easily won the second set 6-1 to advance to the semifinals.
Daoust returns next year to lead the Mustangs while Sun, Gray and Jacobs completed their Shenandoah tennis careers Tuesday.
