Upcoming event at the SGC is the final one for 2026 – the annual Chili Bowl on Sunday, October 11. It's a four-person scramble format with lunch served afterwards at the Elm Street Grill.
Dennis Grebert had an eagle 2 on the par four 5th hole on Monday, September 21. His 85 yard second shot with a gap wedge found the bottom of the cup! His playing partners were Tim Roberts and Todd Bonnes.
This week's golf slang dictionary term is “Where's Your OFF Button?” And the definition is “Remark to a Fellow Golfer Whose Pie Hole Runs Constantly on the Course.”
This week's golf quote from famous people is compliments of former PGA Tour standout David Duval. “Confidence comes from hard work. It comes from facing different situations and making putts. It comes from knowing you've worked on the right things, so when you get under the gun, you can execute what you've practiced.”
This week's “In Years Gone By” notable event is the upcoming 12 anniversary of one of the most famous holes-in-one ever recorded in SGC history. On October 3, 2014, Martin Mulligan aced the par three 17th hole (allegedly) in a shot heard around the world (or at least here in the 'doah!!!). Shortly thereafter, the toll free hole-in-one verification line was created – 1 (800) VERIFY. Congratulations again, Martin!
This week's attempt at golf humor – They call me 007 – 0 birdies, 0 pars, 7 three putts!
The answer to last week's trivia question – Whose name is on a memorial bench on the 17th tee box? The correct answer is Virginia Connell. This week's trivia question – Whose name is on a memorial bench on the 10th tee box? The answer to this week's trivia question will be in the next FTTG column.
