Shenandoah Boys Wrestling
The Shenandoah boys wrestling team won six of eight duals to finish third Friday, Jan. 16, and Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Ron Scott Duals in Mount Ayr.
Jacob McGargill was a perfect 8-0 over two days to lead the Mustangs, with six pins and two forfeits. Hayden Roush won seven matches, all by fall. Carter Wooten, Lukus Major, Tyler Babe, Landon Fuller and Will Berning all finished the weekend with six wins. Major and Babe finished with four falls, Fuller with three falls and a decision, Berning with two fall and Wooten with one fall.
The Mustangs finished Friday 3-0, beating East Union 48-30, Durant 42-36 and Central Decatur 45-36.
The Mustangs only won one of the three contested duals against East Union and that went to Roush by third period fall at 144 over Joseph Hayes.
Wooten, Major, McGargill, Babe, Charlie Liles, Fuller and Berning all took forfeits.
The Mustangs won six of eight contested matches to beat Durant. None of the eight contested matches got out of the first period with Hayden Dukes’ win at 165 taking the longest, in 1 minute, 52 seconds. Roush, Major, McGargill, Babe and Berning all won by fall.
Wooten took a forfeit in the Durant dual.
The Mustangs were 4-2 in contested matches against Central Decatur.
Blake Burdorf, McGargill and Babe were all winners by first period fall while Fuller earned a 3-0 decision over Cutter Frisbie at 215.
Wooten, Major, Liles and Berning all took forfeits.
The first of Shenandoah’s two losses came in Saturday’s opener, 47-30 against Harlan. Shenandoah then beat Mount Ayr 36-27 and Chariton 48-33, lost to tournament champion Cameron 54-30 before ending with a 42-34 win over Southwest Valley.
The Mustangs were 3-5 in contested matches against the Cyclones with McGargill winning by first period fall and Roush and Fuller by second period fall.
Wooten and Dukes took forfeits for Shenandoah.
The Mustangs responded with six contested wins in nine matches against the host Raiders.
Berning won by fall in just 14 seconds at 285. Roush, McGargill and Babe also won by first period fall while Burdorf and Fuller earned wins by second period fall.
The Mustangs were 7-2 in contested matches against Chariton.
Wooten, McGargill, Babe and Liles all won by first period fall. Major won by second period fall and Roush and Burdorf by third period fall.
Berning took a forfeit for Shenandoah while Fuller lasted six minutes in a 10-4 loss to Dace Dyer at 215.
The Mustangs won three contested matches of the eight against Cameron.
Roush and Major won by first period fall and Fuller by second period fall. McGargill and Babe both took forfeits.
Shenandoah then finished the day with a 5-3 match record against Southwest Valley.
Roush won his match by fall in just 18 seconds at 144. Wooten and McGargill also won by first period fall while Major and Liles earned wins by second period fall.
Babe went the distance in his match at 175, losing by a 15-7 major decision to Gavin Wetzel.
The Mustangs finished the day with a dual record of 20-7.Â
