Clarinda’s Taylor Rasmussen and Addy Weinreich claimed the top two spots in the field Wednesday, May 20, at the Class 2A Regional Girls Golf Final, held at Lincoln Valley Golf Course in State Center.
Rasmussen posted a 77 and Weinreich a 79, both earning their second straight trip to the Class 2A Girls State Golf Championships, which takes place Thursday, May 28 and Friday, May 29, at American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.
Rasmussen and Weinreich won’t be joined by their teammates, however, or anyone from Shenandoah. The Cardinals posted a 357, finishing third in the six-team field. Roland-Story won the tournament with a 346 and Grundy Center’s 355 was two strokes better than Clarinda for the final qualifying spot.
Shenandoah’s Sarah Pickens posted an 85 to finish seventh, two strokes behind the sixth and final individual qualifier.
Pickens’ teammate, Alaina Anderson, ended in 13th with an 18-hole score of 92.
That ends the season for the Fillies, a little more than a week after a runner-up finish at the Hawkeye 10 Conference Tournament. Each athlete on the Shenandoah roster is set to return next season.
Clarinda’s other two scorers were Elle Nelson with a 95 and a 106 from Jalon Olson. Maggie Carlson finished with a 131 and Victoria Schutt-Andersen a 136 to make up the rest of Clarinda’s lineup.
That was the final round in the golf career for Carlson and Olson, who both exit the program.
Rasmussen has two more rounds left on her outstanding golf career while Weinreich completes her sophomore season with her second state bid.
