Stogdill, King set to lead Clarinda cross country
Clarinda senior Isaiah Stogdill led the Cardinal cross country team Tuesday, Aug. 25, the Shenandoah Early Bird meet in the last first meet of his cross country career. He finished 13th in a finishing time of 19 minutes, 33 seconds.

“It’s weird coming back into the season,” Stogdill said. “It wasn’t the start to the season I was hoping for. But it’s the first meet and can only get better from here.”
Stogdill was one of two Clarinda medalists in Shenandoah Tuesday as sophomore Jenna King finished 19th as the first of just two Clarinda girls to cross the finish line.
“I’m very happy with my performance (Tuesday),” King said. “We have just four girls this year, which is a little bit rough after 14 last year, but I got myself a medal and I’m proud of it.”
King finished in 24:13 with teammate Jenny DeBoer the only other Cardinal to cross the line in 34:33, taking 57th. King said even with a small group this year, it’s been a fun team to be part of.
“We’re all pretty close,” King said. “We have been trying to run together but we have a few people in different places and we’re going to really work on that this year. We’re hoping to grow and do some recruiting for next year in the offseason.”
Stogdill was one of 14 Clarinda boys on Shenandoah’s course Tuesday with the next fastest behind him coming home in Grady Brown’s 25th-place performance. One of Stogdill’s classmates, Malcolm Taylor, was two places and two seconds behind Brown. Mason Piveral and Jase Gray were the other two Clarinda scorers with Noah Wellhausen, another senior, as well as Jayden Haffner making up the rest of the varsity.
“We have a lot of young guys on our team,” Stogdill said. “We have a lot of sophomores but a lot of guys returning too. We have a good team this year.”
Stogdill said his goal this season is to compete near the front of the pack as often as he can.
King, Stogdill and their teammates get another chance to compete Saturday in Glenwood. They’ll run at their home meet Tuesday, Sept. 8. Atlantic hosts this year’s Hawkeye 10 Conference meet Thursday, Oct. 15.
Clarinda senior Malcolm Taylor was the third fastest on the day for the Cardinals, placing 27th and helping lead Clarinda to a fourth-place team finish Tuesday, Aug. 25, at the Shenandoah Early Bird.
