Sidney Softball
Bryan Clark
Avary Gamber and Bridget Kromminga produced three hits each as the Sidney softball team won for the second time this season, beating Essex at home Thursday, June 18, 13-5.
The Cowgirls scored six runs in the third inning to lead 7-1 and then added six more in the sixth to activate the run-rule after Essex had trimmed its deficit to 7-5.
Kromminga drove in three and scored two runs and Gamber added an RBI for the Cowgirls. Charli King and McKenzie Thatcher added two hits each with King recording two RBIs and two runs scored. Ashlyn Hayes scored a run and drove in a run.
Gamber as the complete game winner for the Cowgirls, striking out six, while giving up six hits, four walks and five earned runs over six innings.
Paityn Vanatta hit her second home run of the week as part of a two-hit evening. She drove in a pair of runs.
Piper Maher, Aila Valdez and Taylor Juarez all added a hit and a run scored. Piper Maher also drove in a run.
Ella Sandahl took the complete game loss, striking out three over six innings. She gave up six hits, four walks and 13 runs, six earned.
Sidney at Fremont-Mills
The top team in the Corner Conference put up an 11-run opening inning as Class 1A No. 12 Fremont-Mills beat Sidney softball Friday, June 19, 13-0.
Avary Gamber, Charli King and Alyssa Dowling collected Sidney’s hits over four innings.
Gamber went the distance in the circle, giving up 10 hits and four walks. Seven of the 13 runs were earned.
Sidney at Griswold
The Sidney softball team gave up at least one run in every inning, including three in the fifth which allowed Griswold to earn the 8-0 run-rule win Tuesday, June 16, at home over the Cowgirls.
Alyssa Dowling produced Sidney’s only hit and Avary Gamber took a walk.
Gamber took the complete game loss for the Cowgirls, officially working four-plus innings in the circle, giving up six hits, seven walks and eight earned runs. She struck out three.
