New trial date set for accused murderer of Breasia Terrell
A new trial date has been set for the man accused in the July 10, 2020, kidnapping and murder of 10-year-old Breasia Terrell of Davenport.
The trial for Henry Dinkins was to have begun Feb. 14.

Breasia Terrell murder: Warrants detail what happened the night the 10-year-old girl disappeared
Breasia Terrell, 10, vanished from a Davenport apartment nearly a year ago. Remains of her body were discovered in a Clinton County pond in March, and Henry Dinkins, the only person of interest in the case, was charged with her kidnapping and murder in early May.
Warrants returned Tuesday to the Scott County Court outline a timeline of what happened the night Breasia disappeared and how the investigation proceeded until her remains were found.
Henry Dinkins pleads not guilty to kidnapping, murder of Breasia Terrell
Henry Dinkins, accused of kidnapping and murdering 10-year-old Breasia Terrell, submitted Wednesday a written arraignment and plea of not guilty in Scott County District Court.
Dinkins, 48, also demanded his right to a speedy trial. He was the only person of interest after Breasia went missing in July 2020, and he was charged with kidnapping and murder after her body was found in March.

Breasia, who was 10, was last seen either late July 9 or during the early morning hours of July 10 of 2020. She spent the night with her brother at Dinkins' home during the time period she disappeared. Dinkins, 48, is the boy's father. Breasia's remains were discovered on March 22 near DeWitt, and her identity was confirmed on March 31.
Henry Dinkins has been charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping in relation to the death of Breasia Terrell. 'This news is heartbreaking': Remains found in DeWitt are those of Breasia Terrell
The identity of the human remains found last week just north of DeWitt was announced Wednesday in front of nine news cameras perched on tripods inside the Davenport Police station's community room.

Police: Remains are Breasia Terrell
Davenport Police say human remains found near DeWitt earlier this month are those of Breasia Terrell.
The then 10-year-old went missing from Davenport late July 9 or early July 10, launching a massive search effort that spanned several counties.
Authorities announced the development at a press conference Wednesday.
"This is heartbreaking," said Chief Paul Sikorski, breaking down in tears.
Fishermen made the discovery March 22 in a pond in a rural area.
The investigation has included four investigators from Davenport and two FBI agents, who followed-up on 170 tips, conducted hundreds of interviews and served "over 60" search warrants related to Breasia's disappearance, authorities said in December.
Criminal charges have not been filed, and police declined to take questions about what has now become a homicide investigation.

Countless searches. Many prayer vigils. Thousands of flyers handed out and mounted to everything from gas station windows to telephone poles.
Four months have passed and 10-year-old Breasia Terrell remains missing. During much of that time the Davenport Police Department and Breasia's family remained silent.

Henry Dinkins' kidnapping, murder trial starts Tuesday in Cedar Rapids
The trial of the Davenport man accused of kidnapping and killing Breasia Terrell is slated to start this week.
Thirty-six months and 28 days have passed since she disappeared. Scott County prosecutors say Henry Earl Dinkins kidnapped Breasia, shot her and dumped her body in Clinton County on July 10, 2020.

Prosecutors: Dinkins viewed violent porn before Breasia Terrell's murder
A Davenport man searched online for violent pornographic images days before he abducted and murdered 10-year-old Breasia Terrell, according to Scott County prosecutors.
The new allegation was among several revealed recently in filings by Scott County Attorney Kelly Cunningham in advance of the Aug. 8 start of the murder trial for Henry Earl Dinkins.

Dinkins' attorneys seek suppression of an array of evidence
The attorneys for the Davenport man accused of murdering 10-year-old Breasia Terrell object to some of the evidence the state wants to present.

This week marks a dark and troubling anniversary.
On July 10, 2020 Breasia Terrell was reported missing. In the days, weeks and months that followed, multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, searched fields and waterways throughout Scott and Clinton counties in a desperate search for the 10-year-old.

Trial date set for man accused of kidnapping, shooting Breasia Terrell
A jury trial has been scheduled for the man accused in the July 10, 2020, kidnapping and killing of 10-year-old Breasia Terrell.
During a pretrial hearing Thursday in Scott County District Court, District Judge Henry Latham scheduled a trial for Aug. 8, 2023, for Henry Earl Dinkins, 50, of Davenport.

Henry Dinkins will stand trial for the kidnap and murder of 10-year-old Breasia Terrell in 2023.
District Court Judge Henry Latham made the decision Friday, granting a request to delay the trial filed by Dinkins' attorneys Chad and Jennifer Frese in order to " ... allow them adequate time to prepare." Scott County Attorney Michael Walton filed a resistance to the motion.

She had been visiting Henry Dinkins with her brother. She was reported missing and the Davenport Police Department searched Credit Island. Dinkins was taken into custody.

It's been 26 months and 23 days since Breasia Terrell disappeared from the Davenport apartment where she was supposed to spend the night with her brother.
Over the course of those two years, two months and 23 days, Henry Earl Dinkins was, first, a person of interest in the case. Then Davenport Police said he was the only suspect in the case after Breasia's body was found in a farm pond outside of DeWitt in March of 2021.
It's been a year since Breasia Terrell's remains were found in rural DeWitt. Here's a timeline of the case, which began with her disappearance in July 2020.
