Cross country, tennis postseason sites announced

Area tennis and cross country teams have a good idea where they’ll open postseason play.
While assignments won’t be released until later this season, postseason sites have been released in the last few days.
Tennis
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released tennis regional individual qualifying sites Friday, Aug. 28, with Clarinda and Shenandoah likely going to Atlantic.
Atlantic is one of eight sites in Class 1A for the regional tournament, which takes place Wednesday, Sept. 23. Boone, Pella and Sergeant Bluff-Luton could also be considered.
Cross Country
The Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released sites for state qualifying cross country meets Tuesday, Sept. 1, with Clarinda and Shenandoah likely going to Treynor and Essex and Sidney likely competing at Southwest Valley.
Treynor is one of five sites in Class 2A and Southwest Valley one of eight sites in Class 1A for the state qualifying meets, which take place Thursday, Oct. 22. Unity Christian could also be considered in 2A while Panorama and Ridge View could be considered in 1A.
Cross Country Rankings update
The Shenandoah boys and girls cross country teams continue to be state ranked by the Iowa Association of Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches.
The latest rankings were released Monday, Aug. 31, with the Shenandoah boys ranked eighth in Class 2A and the Shenandoah girls 18th in Class 2A.
The top runner for both Shenandoah teams so far this season is in the individual top 30 with Mason Sells coming in at No. 18 and Ava O’Rourke at No. 29.
Volleyball Rankings Update
The Sidney volleyball team dropped one spot in the latest Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union rankings, released Thursday, Sept. 3.
The Cowgirls fell to No. 6 in Class 1A following an opening-match loss Tuesday at home to Johnson-Brock.
