Shenandoah Wrestling’s all-time wins leader was recognized Thursday, April 2, during Shenandoah’s Signing Day ceremony, for signing with the University of Mary Wrestling.
McGargill said a visit to the NCAA Division II school, located in Bismarck, North Dakota, sold him on the school.
“Their community was really good, and their team culture is amazing,” McGargill said. “Everyone got along and they had an amazing turnout for their wrestle offs. When I went there, it was really cool and really eye-opening.”
McGargill, who exits the Shenandoah program holding several records, including 200 career wins, said having the opportunity to wrestle collegiately was simply something he had to pursue.

“Being able to go compete at the next level,” McGargill said, “is a great opportunity and definitely feels very special.”
McGargill is hoping to get on campus later this spring to spend more time there, training with his future teammates. He’s planning on competing in the National Tournament in Fargo this summer and has big goals as he hopes to continue to improve going into his time as a college wrestler.
McGargill was one of five Shenandoah seniors who signed during the ceremony.
McGargill plans on majoring in Physical Therapy.

The leaders of the Sidney girls track and field team all have a field event or two that look to be their main events this season.
Junior Jocelyn Tackett has big goals for the high jump this season, sophomore Keyana Haggerty the same in the long jump and sophomore Charli King is hoping for a big season in the discus and shot put.
Tackett and Haggerty weren’t far from qualifying for the state meet in those events last year with Tackett finishing second and Haggerty third in the jumps at the state qualifying meet. With those close calls, both look to take the next step this season.
“We have been working a lot on making sure my steps are where I need them to be,” Tackett said, “and we have been working on higher heights in practice so that when I get to a meet they’re not as intimidating.”
“This is our first year without having (Chelsie) Reynolds as a coach,” Haggerty added, “but we have been blessed with (Coach Samuel) Cheadle, who has experience in the triple jump and the long jump. We have been breaking down steps and working on landings.”
King said a lot of the work in the throwing rings have been on fundamentals, such as spins and releases.
King did well in junior high in both throwing events before missing her freshman season because of an injury.
“I have just been trying to get the feel of things again,” King said, “and trying to get back to where I left off.”
Haggerty and Tackett both feel they have improved quite a bit going into this year as they prepare for their opening meets this week.
“I took a lot of time outside of track and volleyball to working on extra sprints,” Haggerty said. “I feel stronger than I did last year and more confident.”
“Last year was the first year I got into the groove for the high jump,” Tackett added. “So, it was kind of my trial year, and I had a decent season. I’m really excited to go into this season with some experience.”
Tackett is hoping to clear 5-2 this year and then get a good relay team together in at least one of the sprint relays. Haggerty would likely be part of that sprint relay as well and shared that goal. She added with her close call in the long jump last year, she said she’ll “jump with a chip on my shoulder,” this season.
The Cowgirls have lost two meets already this season because of weather. This week, they run in Griswold Tuesday and Shenandoah Thursday. They’ll host a coed meet Thursday, April 23.
