Whirlpool Corp. says recent layoffs at its Amana manufacturing facility are part of a broader effort to modernize the plant and keep it competitive long-term — a response that Iowa Republican U.S. Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Ashley Hinson say they will continue to scrutinize as hundreds of workers prepare to lose their jobs.
