Led by Tom Brady, Tampa Bay is the favorite in the NFC. Who could challenge the Bucs?
The Los Angeles Rams' big deal for quarterback Matthew Stafford last offseason culminated with a victory in Super Bowl 56 over the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Rams bring back much of their championship squad, including Stafford, and have been installed as a +125 favorite to win the NFC West, according to DraftKings.
Los Angeles has an explosive playmaker in Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Cooper Kupp. It has one of the most dominant defensive stars in the league in defensive end Aaron Donald.Â
FrontPageBets makes its evaluation of the race in the West and how it will play out.
Coach Sean McVay and the Rams did not stand pat by any stretch in the offseason. They added key pieces on offense (receiver Allen Robinson) and defense (linebacker Bobby Wagner). It wouldn't be a surprise if talented wideout Odell Beckham Jr. returns as well. Cam Akers remains a strong presence running the football.
Looking at the rest of the division, it's hard to see anyone matching what the Lombardi Trophy holders have in their arsenal.
The San Francisco 49ers (+160) have a new leader under center in Trey Lance as they eschew Jimmy Garoppolo. The big question is what happens with impact wideout Deebo Samuel, who seems to want to cash in or check out. There's a star in tight end George Kittle still around. Some offseason pickups will help. Signing cornerback Charvarius Ward from the Kansas City Chiefs was huge. From the draft comes big-time defensive end Drake Jackson out of USC. But a lot of talent has left the building including offensive linemen Laken Tomlinson and Tom Compton. DBs Jaquiski Tartt and K'Waun Williams are among others no longer in the Bay Area.
The Arizona Cardinals (+400) can be confounding. Is Kliff Kingsbury's squad the team that reeled off seven wins to start last season or the one who limped into the playoffs at 11-6 and was shredded by the Rams? Quarterback Kyler Murray, in contract limbo, too has had his ups and downs. He was touted as an MVP candidate early, then sank. The Cardinals will be without the services of receiver DeAndre Hopkins for six games due to suspension. Can Marquise Brown soften the blow of Hopkins' absence until he returns? Questions on defense remain. Will the addition of once-touted cornerback Jeff Gladney be a boost?Â
The Seattle Seahawks (+1600) said so long to Russell Wilson and didn't get a whole lot of value in return from the Denver Broncos. How do you feel about Geno Smith or Drew Lock as QB1? The offensive line will look quite different too protecting Smith, Lock or a QB to be named. Will the draft help restock Pete Carroll's cupboard? OT James Cross from Mississippi State was the top choice. LB Boye Mafe comes aboard from Minnesota. Explosive running back Kenneth Walker IIIÂ from Michigan State could be a second-round steal. Another big offensive tackle, Abraham Lucas, joins from Washington State. All signs point to a long, frustrating campaign.Â
