Clarinda, Shenandoah athletes qualify for Drake Relays

Clarinda sophomore Cooper Baumgart celebrates after clearing 6

height gave Baumgart a spot in the Drake Relays. He'll compete

Clarinda qualified seven events and Shenandoah two for the Drake Relays, which take place for Iowa high school competitors Thursday, April 23 – Saturday, April 25.
Clarinda senior Kylie Meier and freshman Ellery Bird are in three each as the Cardinal girls qualified in four events.
Meier competes in the long jump at 5 p.m. Thursday while Bird takes part in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash Friday morning at 9:03. The final is Friday afternoon.
Bird and Meier are also part of two relay teams. Miley Wagoner and Stevie Wilmes join for the 4x400, with preliminaries set for 8:49 Friday evening. The final is late Saturday afternoon.
Wagoner and Alexa Barnes join Meier and Bird in the 4x100 prelims at 9:40 Saturday morning. The final is later that afternoon.
The Clarinda boys qualified in three events and sophomore Cooper Baumgart is in two of them.
Baumgart is part of the high jump field at 4:30 Thursday afternoon, then Saturday he’ll compete with Nolan Wagoner, Cohen Phillips and Kaden Hawley in the 4x100-meter relay prelims, which begin at 10:12 a.m. The final is Saturday afternoon.
Karson Johnson is part of the 400-meter wheelchair event, along with Shenandoah’s Titus Steng. They take the track at 11:35 Friday morning.
Shenandoah’s Simon Hennings will be the first area athlete to compete at Drake. He’s in the discus field at 2:30 Thursday afternoon.

co-ed track meet for more than 50 years of ensuring Shenandoah
track meets run smoothly. The meet will be named in honor of
Ratliff going forward. Ratliff is pictured with wife Deb, his
children and grandchildren.
