Shenandoah Boys Wrestling
Jacob McGargill won his 150{sup}th{/sup} career match as part of a 3-0 night Tuesday, Dec. 9, for Shenandoah boys wrestling at CAM.
McGargill, Landon Fuller, Hayden Roush and Carter Wooten were all unbeaten on the evening as the Mustangs beat Griswold 48-12, Kuemper Catholic 45-18 and CAM 48-18.
Roush and McGargill won two contested matches on the night, as did Aiden Dinges, Hayden Dukes and Lukus Major.
The Mustangs were 6-1 in contested matches against the Tigers. Major and McGargill earned first period falls at 157 and 175 pounds. Fuller (215), Dinges (144) and Roush (150) won by fall in the second period and Dukes (157) by fall in the third period.
Wooten and Tyler Babe took forfeits in the win.
The Mustangs were 5-1 in contested matches in the Hawkeye 10 Conference win over Kuemper.
Roush and Major won by first period fall at 150 and 165 and McGargill by second period fall at 175. Babe was dominant at 190, beating Ryan Igou by second period technical fall 21-5. Dukes beat Mason Vonnahme by major decision 16-6 at 157.
Wooten, Fuller and Will Berning took forfeits for Shenandoah.
There were just five contested matches in the dual between the Mustangs and host Cougars with Shenandoah winning three.
Wooten (113), Dinges (138) and Charlie Liles (190) all earned wins by first period fall.
Roush, McGargill, Fuller, Berning and Janx Webber all took forfeits.
The Mustangs improve to 6-1 on the dual season.
Shenandoah at Riverside TournamentJacob McGargill won the 165-pound championship, leading the Shenandoah boys wrestling team Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Riverside Invitational.
Hayden Roush added a runner-up finish as the Mustangs finished 12{sup}th{/sup} in the 21-team field with 77.5 points.
Hinton’s 176.5 points, edged Savannah’s 176 for the team title. Riverside, Logan-Magnolia and Earlham completed the top five.
After a second period technical fall in the first round at 165 pounds, McGargill, ranked second in Class 2A at 175, pinned his way to the championship, beating ACGC’s Angel Martinez in the first period in the semifinals and Deagen Pasley of Savannah in the second period of the final.
Roush pinned his way to the final, beating Creston’s Brodrick Phelps in the first period at 144 before losing by first period technical fall 18-1 to Class 1A top-ranked Drew Anderson of Riverside in the final.
Tyler Babe was the only other Shenandoah athlete to place, taking sixth at 175. A first period pin in a consolation semifinal got him that result.
Lukus Major won two matches at 157 for the Mustangs. Jaxsen Simmert (175), Charlie Liles (190), Fuller (215) and Will Berning (285) all won one match on the day.
Carter Wooten was also in the field at 113.
