Area golfers earn all-state recognition

Seven area golfers were named to the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association All-State Teams.
This short chip shot from Shenandoah junior JJ Martin found the
bottom of the cup to start a string of three straight birdies to
start his round Monday, May 18, at the Class 2A District Tournament
in Shenandoah. Martin recorded a 3-under par 67 to win the district
title and advance to the state tournament.

Shenandoah junior JJ Martin earned first team all-state and first team all-tournament recognition in Class 2A.
Clarinda senior Taylor Rasmussen plays her approach shot on the
opening hole of a Class 2A Regional First Round Tournament Friday,
May 15, in Shenandoah. Rasmussen finished second overall with a 79,
helping lead the Cardinals to a runner-up total of 359, advancing
to the regional final.

Shenandoah junior Sarah Pickens putts on the first hole Friday,
May 15, at the Shenandoah Golf Course. Pickens sank the putt for a
birdie to start her round. She scored an 81 to finish fourth and
advance to the regional final.

Clarinda senior Taylor Rasmussen and Shenandoah junior Sarah Pickens earned first team all-state for Class 2A Girls while Rasmussen was also second team all-tournament.
Sidney sophomore Alyssa Dowling putts the ball Wednesday, May 6,
at the Red Oak Country Club during the Corner Conference Golf
Tournament. Dowling won the individual championship by 19 strokes,
leading Sidney to the team title.

Sidney sophomore Alyssa Dowling earned first team all-state honors in Class 1A.
The top 10 players and ties according to their adjusted averages are named to the all-state first team with the next 10 players and ties named to the second team. The top six players and ties from the state tournament are named to the all-tournament first team and the next six with ties to the second team.
Clarinda sophomore Jac Fine sinks a putt on hole No. 8 Friday,
April 24, during a home loss to Atlantic. Fine's 38 matched
Clarinda's lowest score of the day.
