Shenandoah junior Sarah Pickens finished in the top half of the field Tuesday, June 2, at the Iowa High School Golf Showcase, held at Elmwood Country Club in Marshalltown.
The Iowa High School Golf Showcase, according to its results page, was an event to bring together the top high school golfers (boys and girls) in the state to celebrate the golf season.
The invite-only event featured 40 girls and saw Pickens post a 92 to finish 17th overall. Many of the athletes in the field represented schools quite a bit bigger than Shenandoah during the recently completed golf season.
Grace Lewis of Oelwein won the event by seven strokes, posting a 76. Pickens’ score was only four strokes back of a tie for 10th.
After a disappointing finish to the spring season at Shenandoah, missing the state tournament, Pickens is hopeful this begins a great offseason that leads to a highly-successful senior season.
