Shenandoah baseball’s catcher will continue his career collegiately at Southwestern Community College.
Babe signed with SWCC during Shenandoah’s Signing Day ceremony Thursday, April 2, and said he liked what he saw from the coaching staff on a recent visit and feels he can thrive at the Creston-based school.
“I really liked the campus, and I liked the coach a lot,” Babe said. “I have a lot of trust with what he’s going to get and I’m excited for that. Ultimately, this is the right decision and I’m excited for what the future holds.”
Mike Creason is SWCC’s head baseball coach, leading a Spartans team that entered the recent weekend with an 11-26 record in NJCAA Division I.
Babe said he’s always wanted to play college baseball and said getting this opportunity is something he had to take advantage of, saying he wants to continue to play the sport for as long as he can. He said to be ready to do that collegiately, he’s trying to get his body in the best shape it can possibly be.

Shenandoah's Tyler Babe takes his position at catcher during a Mustang home game last season. He signed Thursday to play baseball at SWCC.
“I’m trying to get as big as possible,” Babe said. “And get as fast as possible, hit the ball as hard as I can and throw as hard as I can.”
Babe was not only Shenandoah’s backstop last season, but he was also a leader at the plate, producing a team-high 28 hits. He has big goals for his senior season this summer.
“I want to make first-team all-conference and hopefully make an all-state team,” Babe said.

He’ll then join the NJCAA Division I program with a high school teammate as Logan Twyman also signed Thursday with SWCC’s baseball program.
Academically, Babe said he’s planning on getting all his prerequisites out of the way at the community college while pursuing a business degree.
